Good Summer Reads

Wrote this post awhile back and thought it would be great for Amanda’s Dishing It party! Head on over to Serenity Now for more post full with good summer reads!
3704901_a37e9560fd[1]It’s that time of year, the kiddos are getting out of school, vacations are being booked, and a good read is calling your name. I’m always on the hunt for a good book. I’m a self diagnosed adult with ADD so it takes a lot to grab my attention and pull me in. I thought it would be fun to share a few of our favorite summer reads. I’m sure there are other peeps out there looking for a good book as well so let’s pull together and give each other a few suggestions!

Some of you may have seen my post about The Night Huntress Series. They have to be at the top of my list! Loved these books!! My Mom who has never touched a vampire romance novel loved them as well. They’ve made their way to all the ladies in my family and even touch the night stand of a few of my friends. Just to warn you……once you start reading you cannot put them down! 0767905180[1] Jemima J is another one that sucked me in. I finished this book in 1 day! I started and literally could not put it down. I’ve never read a whole book in one day so that says a lot. It’s a story about a girl who struggles with a weight problem, how she deals with it and over comes it. I know it sounds a bit dramatic but it’s actually very funny! It pulls at your heart and your funny bone at the same time! To read more about this book click HERE

I’ve read Something Blue but have not read Something Barrowed……..yet. I plan to because I really enjoyed the first novel. Something Blue is an easy read and a page turner. It’s a great lying by pool type of book! Click Here to read more about Something Blue and Here to read more about Something Borrowed.

Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas: Book Cover
Lately I’ve enjoyed listening to audio books downloaded for FREE from my local library. That’s right I said FREE!!! I load them onto my MP3 put my ear buds in and go to town. Something about listening to an audio book while I buy groceries at Wally World a.k.a. Wal-Mart makes it more of an enjoyable experience. I listen to audio books while I workout, clean house, and during long commutes! I just finished Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas. It was a great book full of romance, funny moments, and southern hospitality! To read more about this book click HERE

Tips to find these books and others for lower cost or free!
1. Don’t forget about your local library. If they don’t have it in stock some libraries will allow you to request it online and will bring it in from another branch.
2. Half Price Books: I get most of my books at Half Price Books. If you don’t have one in your area look for another local discount book store.
3. Swaptree.com: A data base of fellow bookies who want to trade books. You just enter the books you want to get rid of and the books that you’re looking for. Swapteee will match with someone who wants to swap for a book you have. You print out postage and mail your book. Super easy and a great way to save!
5. Goodwill: It may take some time to look through all the unorganized books but you can really find some great recently released books and for .49 cents for a paperback……you can’t beat that (unless it’s free)!
6. Host a book swap with friends and family: Pick a local location and have everyone bring books that they are willing to part with. It’s a great excuse for a ladies night and you can leave with a few new to you books.
Now it’s your turn: In your comment tell us the title of your favorite books and why you enjoyed them.

I Have a Secret……

I’ve been debating weather or not I was going to share this juicy secret
with you guys but as you can see I’ve deiced to spill the beans.

I was in Barnes and Noble killing sometime when a cheesy romance novel caught my eye. My exact thought was...."Why in the world do authors think silly, cheesy, covers (like the one I was holding in my hands, sorry Jeanine :o) will make people want to read their books?" "I would be embarrassed to read something with a cover like this in public.” But I flipped the book over to see what it was about and started to get interested and........yep, I bought it; even though I was a little embarrassed when I checked out (again, sorry Jeanine). Let me tell ya I am sooooo glad I put the cover aside and gave this series a chance because I am head over hills in love with it!!!!! I will even say that I LOVE these books more than Twilight. Yes I said it! I never thought that would be possible but I really do! I’ve torn through the first 3 books and am working on the 4th. The other great thing about this series is that it’s a continuing series so Jeanine Frost (the author) will continue to release more and more novels and I don’t have to say goodbye to the characters....at least not anytime soon!
The reason I was not too sure about sharing this little gem with you guys is because it’s an adult romance novel and as some of you know those usually come along with in depth sex scenes. This is NOT a book for teens. I even felt a little guilty reading it sometimes but hey let me be honest, I kind of liked it too! Sex is not the main drive of the book and is only sprinkled throughout every now and then so don’t let that turn your nose up.
I’m sure not many people are still reading at this point and I apologize that this is so long but trust me if you are a Twilight fan and an adult GIVE THIS SERIES A TRY!!!! It’s full of action, love, lust, and laughs.
Just because you guys are so awesome and this is my 100th post (I know I can’t believe it) I’m going to giveaway the 1st book in the series to 1 lucky winner. I’ll even make it easy for you.............
*Just leave a comment with a way for me to contact you. For a second chance to win tweet about this giveaway and come back here leave another comment letting me know that you just tweeted about our awesome giveaway. That’s it, easy-pezzy!*

Just to be fair: Please only enter this giveaway if you are actually going to read the book…..not add it to your pile of books to read. I need some peeps to dish over this book with!

If you’ve read or currently reading this series…..e-mail me!!!! I’m dying to talk about it with someone.

I’ll announce a winner on January 10th
PS… I’m going to a Twilight party this weekend. Hopefully I’ll have some pictures to share next week.

My First Post......

As of now it’s just me talking to myself, but hey I’m ok with that!

I did one of my favorite things today…..went to Barnes and Noble grabbed a huge stack of magazines (mostly home décor mags.) ordered a drink from Starbucks and relaxed in a big comfy chair. There is just something about the smell of coffee and books that immediately relaxes me. I I love flipping through home décor magazine and getting ideas of all the things I can recreate in my home. It’s great to see different patterns, textures, and colors together that I would not have thought of otherwise. I’m always thinking about ways to recreate something I saw in a magazine, put my twist on it while making it more cost effective. My house is still a work in progress. I’m decorating it with the little funds I have available (full time college student and currently not working) but slowly and surly it’s filling up!
For some reason when I was selecting magazines I pulled out one about blogging. I have no idea why, but I did. I loved looking through all the articles about the different types of blogs people were creating and was immediately inspired. I wanted to do a blog too but had no idea what I would blog about. I don’t have children or a fascinating job, I'm not married (but am on my way), and then it came to me…..I would blog about all things domestic! Hummm I'm in no way Martha Stewart but I do love decorating, baking, being crafty and many things that come along with the idea of it! After some thought I decided to create my very own blog! So here I am typing my first entry. I have a book store, an iced caramel latte, and a random magazine to thank for it!
